Vickie Drake Obituary

Vickie Drake, known for her heartfelt connection with her rich Cherokee heritage, peacefully passed away on August 22, 2025, in Cedar Creek, Missouri. Born on May 12, 1956, to the late Victor Eudon and Opal Pauline “Pope” Bennett, Vickie embarked on a life journey that would be marked by love and resilience.

Growing up in Lee's Summit, Missouri, Vickie completed her high school education before taking the reins of her life and steering it toward a path filled with adventure and purpose. At an early age, she discovered a passion for horses, which blossomed into a career as a jockey— allowing for the joy of working alongside these majestic creatures. Later on, Vickie transitioned into the world of the scrap metal industry, where she was the main buyer at City Scrap Metal.

Vickie's personal life was as rich and fulfilling leaving many behind in her passing. Overall, She and her husband Merrill shared 31 beautiful years of knowing each other, and together they had an extended family that included her eldest, Jimmy Buckner, and then Angela (Purple Wolf) born to Vickie and Doug Buckner, along with a stepson Merrill Drake III provided her with countless moments of pride and joy in their own way. Her grandchildren, Johnathan, Shawn, Alyssa, Dakota, Dallas, Carter, Jimmy and Cody, constantly reminded her of life and love.

Vickie's family ties only grew stronger over time. Her aunts, uncles, and expansive Cherokee lineage held a special place in her life, particularly the Wolf Clan to which she belonged and the legacy of a "Beloved Woman, Quatsi from her maternal line of ancestors.

In addition to her predeceased parents, Vickie was met in eternal rest by her brother Mark Bennett, Roy Bennett, and Jesse Bennett. Her surviving brother Keith (Bonnie) from Blue Springs, Mo.

Vickie's fondness for the outdoors was evident to all who knew her. Her connection with nature and the animals that frequented her home with Merrill was a source of immense joy. She welcomed them with treats and delighted in their presence—a testament to her thoughtful and nurturing nature.
