Robert A. Jewsbury

Robert A. Jewsbury, 80, of Merriam Woods.

Robert passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by his family on May 23, 2022.  He was born March 2, 1942, in Joplin, Missouri, to Robert and Ioma (Provance) Jewsbury.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Ben Welz.

Robert is survived by his wife Margot; son James and Becky Jewsbury, son John and Wendy Jewsbury, and son Tad and Elizabeth McKay; brother Robert and Amy Lynn Jewsbury III; sisters Bobbie (Bokin) and Dan Briscoe, Joetta Moretti, Merry and Al Dust, Maria and Chris Bichsel, and Debbie Alexander; brothers-in-law Norbert Welz and Alfons Welz. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dalton Jewsbury, Brad and Ashley Jewsbury, Savannah Jewsbury, Hayley Jewsbury, Ashlie and Mitchell Beede, Steven Oswald, Sydnie Robins and Zach Robins as well as great-grandchild, Aria Jewsbury.

As a young man, Robert was a corpsman in the Navy where he would assist doctors in taking care of newborns at Camp Pendleton, California. This is where he met Margot, who was also a Navy Corpsman. They were married on December 26, 1964, in Grand Junction, Colorado. They had two sons, Jim and John. In 1973, he moved his family to Branson, Mo. Robert was a bridge builder by trade. He worked as a superintendent for several bridge contractors throughout his career. He was also a member of the Carpenters union. He would build garages and do concrete work on weekends and spare time to make extra money. Robert built the house that he and Margot lived in 1978. During his retirement, he volunteered to drive the DAV van taking many veterans to receive care at different veterans’ facilities. He loved to fish and in 1990 built a cabin on Bull Shoals Lake for the family to enjoy. He also loved to deer hunt, harvesting and processing many deer over the years. Over the course of his life, he built many things to help family even if it meant traveling long distances to do so. One of his greatest loves was raising and caring for chickens. Over the years he had many different kinds of chickens and roosters including bantys. Eggs were supplied to his children free of charge all throughout the years. He always wanted a sawmill and finally in retirement bought a bandsaw mill. He made many things with the mill including lots of bird houses which he gave to many family members. He loved going to auctions and mingling with the locals. Robert loved to tell jokes but often enough could not get to the punchline because of laughing so hard himself. During family birthdays, he would play the guitar and sing happy birthday. He was a great role model to his kids, teaching them that they could do anything by just learning about it first and then following through with trial and error, and a wonderful Grandad. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday May 31, 2022, at the Snapp Cemetery, with Chaplain Randy Cantrell officiating.

Cremation rites have been accorded.
