Martha Brockman Obituary

Funeral service for Martha Ellen (McHaffie) Brockman, 80, Niangua, will be held Wednesday, March 6th at 1:00 PM at Snapp-Bearden Forsyth Chapel, Forsyth, Mo.  Pastor David Koenig will officiate with burial following at the Patterson Cemetery Bradleyville.  Martha entered into rest on Friday March 1, 2024, at Marshfield Care Center, Marshfield, Mo.

Martha was born on February 24, 1944, in Taneyville, Missouri to James and Jessie McHaffie. She had sixteen brothers and sisters. Martha spent her childhood life in Taneyville, Missouri where she worked on the family farm and campground. Martha’s fondest childhood memories were the days she spent fishing on Beaver creek. She loved the “Blue Hole” and spoke of her memories often.

Martha married Cedric H. Brockman Jr. on December 2nd, 1964. Together they raised three sons, Don, Buddy, and Curtis. Martha and Cedric moved to Springfield, Missouri and started a home in 1965. In 1972 they moved to Elkland, Missouri and bought a farm. They wanted more land, so in 1981 they moved to a larger farm in Niangua, Missouri. This was their final home. Martha was a dedicated wife and mother. She stayed at home and kept the house and farm running while Cedric was at work. She started her own business in the early 90s raising poodles. She came up with a special breed of tiny teacup poodles so small and precious she sold them across the United States and in other countries around the world. Mom’s care for her dogs, the breed she developed over many years, and her down-home personality warranted an invite by a Purina sponsored event in Las Vegas, Nevada where she spoke to several breeders from across the country on her process and techniques. Many of the people and family’s mom sold her puppies to kept in close contact with her over the years.

Martha had strong religious beliefs. She firmly believed everybody’s days are numbered and God would call you to heaven on this day. Looking back at the many medical challenges she had over the course of her lifetime, this is a testament as to how long she was able to stay with us. She was the strongest woman many would ever have the privilege to know.

Her favorite saying was, “Memories are like a scrapbook, you can always go back and look at them.”

Wife to Cedric, mom to her sons, and granny to all grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Others knew her as Molly, sister, and Aunt Martha.  Some knew her as a great neighbor and friend.  Those who met her know what a special person she was.  Martha loved her family unconditionally and we all were in her thoughts.

Martha is survived by three sons, Don, Buddy, and Curtis, eight grandsons, one granddaughter, two great grandsons, and two great granddaughters. There is no doubt that she is in heaven with Cedric Jr.  looking down on us now.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4-6 PM at the Snapp-Bearden Forsyth Chapel, Forsyth, Mo.
