Bettye J. Matherly, 86, of Protem.
Bettye was born January 20, 1933 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was a devoted and loving mother, raising three children. She loved being outdoors, working with her flowers, writing poetry for family, and her church. She was a strong, determined little ball of fire who fought and won against cancer for many years. At the same time, she had a soft and kind heart.
She is survived by three children: the oldest Pamela Hodgson and spouse Byrl; John Steven Matherly with spouse Cindy; and Sherri Lynn Compton with spouse Mike. She has 2 surviving sisters, Eva Ship and Elaine Hanna; and a brother, Dale Wheeler. She is also survived by a brother-in-law Frank Matherly, and a sister-in-law Joan Smith, as well as seven grandchildren: Brad, Jason, Robert, Claire, Jesse, Ashley, and John; twelve great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Matherly, her parents, William and Izola Wheeler, three sisters, Billye Helton, Alyce Runyan, and Tommye Sue Matherly, and a grandson, Kurt Hodgson.
Bettye Jo Matherly of Protem, Mo, passed away January 8, 2020. She and Bob were happily married for sixty-one years.
